The year 2014 started with a new race to the 100 crore mark by
upcoming movies and things are getting excited with the Khans of the
industry battling against each other to win the race. There is even a
section of newcomers who with their set of movies challenging the reign
of Khans in Bollywood.
The month of January witnessed the release of two most-awaited
upcoming movies of the year namely, Dedh Ishqiya and Jai Ho. Sequel to
Ishqiya, Dedh Ishqiya starring Madhuri Dixit, Huma Qureshi, Naseeruddin
Shah and Arshad Warsi though was critically successful but couldn't
gather quite an amount at the box-office.
Same is the case with the recent release, Jai Ho starring Salman
Khan. Reportedly made on a budget of Rs.75 crore, Jai Ho opened in about
4,500 screens in India. As per the reports, on Sunday evening the
box-office collection for the movie was mere Rs.60 crore plus. Despite
garnering rave reviews from film critics for Salman's performance and
the movie, Jai Ho failed to crack at the box-office. In a recent
interview Salman Khan said, "If the film doesn't pick up from Monday at
the box-office, I will take the blame for its failure." Unlike other
stars who don't take the blame on themselves incase the movie fails to
do well at the box-office, this act of Salman has once again proved that
he is indeed people's man in real life too.
This year other major upcoming movies of the Khans of the industry
include Kick starring Salman Khan to be released in July. Aamir Khan has
teamed up with Raj Kumar Hirani of 3 Idiots fame for PK scheduled for
release in December. As for King Khan, he will be seen in Happy New Year
directed by Farah Khan. Also he'll be seen strring in Yash Raj Film,
Fan directed by Maneesh Sharma of Band Baaja Baaraat fame.
Ajay Devgn will be seen starring in two movies this year, namely,
Action Jackson by choreographer-turned-director Prabhudeva and Singham 2
by Rohit Shetty, a sequel to blockbuster movie Singham.
Apart from movies starring the Khans, newbies of the industry like
Ranveer Singh, Arjun Kapoor, Sushant Singh Rajput and several other are
also part of the 100 crore race of upcoming movie for 2014.
Some of the other most-anticipated upcoming movies for 2014 include
Hasee Toh Phasee, Gunday, Highway, Queen, Shaadi Ke Side Effects, Gulaab
Gang, Main Tera Hero, City Lights, Holiday, Kill Dil, Bang Bang, Mary
Kom, Detective Byomkesh Bakshi, Welcome Back, to name a few.
No matter what the box-office numbers say, every upcoming movies will
be thoroughly enjoyed and welcomed with warm smiles by the audiences in
India just like Salman Khan's Jai Ho received.
