Grand Fantasia is a game about restoring the balance of nature which was destroyed by human green and is now threatened by the forces of darkness. The land of Saphael, which was once peaceful, was now being ravaged by war. The humans had turned their back on the old ways and now split into different factions.
Only a special few kept the old ways and was granted the magical power of the sprites. They were called the Sprite Messengers. The different tribes rallied under these warriors and fought against the evil that plagued the land.
This game features unique characters that have different specialties. Fighters, Hunters, Acolytes and Spell Casters. You can find screenshots at my game review blog.Upon reaching a certain level, these classes branch out into two sub classes, two for each job class. For example, Fighters could choose between Berserker and Paladin. Hunters would be Rangers or Assassins. Acolytes could either be a Cleric or a Sage. Mages could be a Wizard or a Necromancer.
And yes your companion, namely Sprite spirits, plays an important part in this game. They give special bonuses for your characters. Yeah those little jumping things that follows you all over the place are very useful. Able to craft different weapons and armors, they even have their own house and items that they could equip. Taking good care of them can be quite demanding at times, but I assure you, it is very rewarding. Of course, they are quite talkative at times (ok, make that all the time) to the point of being annoying. But if you think that they just stay as little fluffy balls all throughout the game your wrong. The sprite companions gain experience as the player gains experience. They also evolve and change their appearance. They could even grow wings!
You should also train them to perform tasks like hunting, mining and foraging. The items that they obtain are often used for crafting purposes, so you better train them a lot for your own good!
The main objective of the game is to gather wild sprites and return them to the Altar of the Sprite Kings. For every sprite returned, the balance is slowly restored. You could also get items that you could only obtain from the altar.
